- : I don't think EDO RAM will do anything for such a slow processor as
- : the 030. I read in an article in BYTE that EDO RAMs were developed

- : well as the new Pentium PROs.

- The reason EDO RAM was made (ie, to break a barrier on Pentium computers)
- may be valid, but the way in which EDO RAM works will benefit any speed
- CPU. Being able to read from RAM many times versus a few in the same
- amount of time (relative to whatever speed CPU you have) is a benefit.
-
- Now, from how I understand it, PCs have upwards of a 33Mhz bus that
- actually does the fetching from RAM. Hence, the faster RAM they can
- benefit from is 60ns RAM. With this barrier, they then needed some
- way to get more out of it, hence EDO RAM, which can improve performace
- with the same 60ns RAM by upwards of 10%. Since the Amiga handles RAM
- differently (and more efficiently in my opinion), we will be able to have
- greater benefit from EDO RAM, as we don't need it due to such a barrier,
- but simply as a performance boost, period. Make sense? I hope so.
-
- Somebody correct me if I am way off base, but I think I am pretty sure I
- understand this correctly.
